Girls High Performance

(2021-2022 information)

Register for our HP tryouts ($75 for 9th grade and older/15 and older age divisions and $50 for 8th grade and younger/14 and under age divisions). Each player will get a tryout shirt and at least 2 tryouts.

HP Middle School, 8th grade and younger

Tryouts for our 12U-14U program will begin on Tuesday, 11/2 (and Thursday, 11/4). We expect to field teams at 14U and 12U and would like to field a 13U team as well. Your age group determined by how old you are on 7/1/22 but we put 8th graders on 14U, 7th graders on 13U or 14U and 6th grade and younger on 12U (unless they are "old" in their grade).

The 14U team will play our full HP schedule. The 12U team will play 2 extra tournaments over the regional teams (maybe 3).

Middle School HP teams practice 2x/week (usually 2 weekdays of Tu/Wed/Th), play in 5 single day tournaments and are scheduled to play in at least 3 multiday tournaments.

12-1 team will have one weekday practice.

HP High School (9th grade and older, 15/16/17/18 age divisions)
Players that have not completed their high school season may not attend until they have finished playing! (don't worry about joining tryouts late)
Weekdays will go in 2 shifts (5p-7p or 7:15p-9:15p) and is dependent on the number of signups.

(tryout dates/times below subject to change)

  • Freshmen/Sophomores. Tuesday, 11/9/21 and Wednesday, 11/10/21 (additional tryouts will be on Sunday, 11/14)
  • Juniors/Seniors.  Monday, 11/15 and Thursday, 11/18 (additional tryouts if needed on Sunday, 11/21)

(if your high school team is still playing you may not attend any tryouts, please don't panic... or even worry (but do register for tryouts so we know you'll be coming). Just attend the next tryout after either your team is eliminated or wins the state championship.

Our High Performance program, one of the most competitive in New England, comprises 1-4 teams at each age group from middle school through seniors

Our teams are the top ranked in Connecticut (usually our teams ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th are ranked higher than the top team on other area clubs). Our 2021 18 and under team won every tournament they entered (well, except the USAV Junior Nationals) and our 16 and under team finished 3rd in Boston in the top division, won the Winterfest, Springfield Spikefest, the Tristate Champions League and had our best finish ever at the USAV Junior National Championships. We sent 3 teams to the AAU Junior National Championships and 3 teams to the USAV Junior Nationals.

Are you new to Husky and worried about being overlooked? Don't be, we give all players that attend our tryouts a fair opportunity to be evaluated and selected.

Our tryouts are designed to evaluate every player on objective standards (vertical jump, touch, scores assigned due to proficiency in passing, setting, serviing) and subjective standards (hustle, leadership, court sense). We consider all these items prior to selecting our teams.

Each team represents a different commitment level (and travel burden) classified by:

  • National (highest commitment, travels around the country, season runs until late June / early July)
  • Northeast (very high commitment, travels as far as Philadelphia, season runs until early May)
  • New England (high commitment, travel is in New England only, season runs until early May)

It is possible that we could have more than one team at any given level (so we have had seasons with 2 "17 National" teams or 2 "16 New England" teams). We will field as many teams at a level as we feel can be competitive.

Teams will practice at least 2 weeknights (HP National teams will have a 3rd practice each week starting in 2021-2022). All HP teams will participate in Monday HP play nights on 12/6, 12/13 and 12/20.

Want to make sure a High Performance team is right for you?  Watch and listen to a few Husky players who’ve already been through a season!

  • It’s critical to your development to play against tough competition! All of our teams play against an appropriate but challenging level of opponents. You’ll find that Husky teams played in more high level tournaments than all of the other Connecticut clubs combined!
  • Players are expected to attend all practices and tournaments (as practically possible). We do understand that there can be some conflicts, but we expect that your volleyball team will be your 2nd priority behind school work if you are on an HP team.
  • If you have any further questions, please check out our FAQ.

2020-2021 High Performance Coaches (2021-2022 to be announced)

Our expected HP coaches this year are all returning from last season and are experienced Husky staff members. Here’s a quick bio on some of them.

  • Most of our HP coaching staff is returning. All coaching assignments are subject to change... but here's a peek at some of our staff assignments for 20 (all subject to change as personal circumstances may change).
  • 14 National, Lindsay Price is a Husky alum (6 years as a player and this year will be her 9th season as a coach!) She's been our top 14's team coach the past 4 years!
  • 15 National, Donald Colebrook. Donnie is a Husky alum (we love to say that) returns as the coach of our 15 National team. He's also a high school Physics teacher.
  • 16 National, Tony Sanith. Coach Sanith is another Husky alum turned coach. He’s previously been a Division 1 women’s assistant coach and will be starting his 10th season with us. He’s one of our most popular coaches for private lessons as well!
  • 17 National and 18 National is still pending. (Team Post is unable to return to head coaching this year, John Post is now a Yale assistant).  Ryan Woodcock is returning this year and is one of our most popular coaches for lessons, Ryan also has coached collegiately at Sacred Heart University and Quinnipiac University.
  • Northeast and New England Coaches will consist mostly of coaches that have been on our staff for years in our HP program. They’ve attended  coaching clinics like: Gold Medal Squared coaching clinics, USA Volleyball CAP courses and even trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs at the USA Volleyball High Performance Coaches Clinic. More details on all of our coaches will be available to players shortly.
