Girls Page

There are 2 levels of girls teams in our program:

Regional 2009-2010, $660 for 9th grade or older, $420 for 8th grade or younger (designed to prepare players to make their high school team)

  • Family discounts are available, please check the registration page for details.
  • Players are generally looking to improve their high school level game, players that are seriously looking to play in college should consider the Husky High Performance program (described below)
  • The commitment is for Sundays only
  • Tryouts begin the first Sunday in December (you should attend all tryout dates)
  • Teams will be finalized after the last tryout in late December
  • We are unable to place players on the same team for carpool purposes, however, upon request, we can arrange to place players on teams that have the same time/location for practice to help the carpool situation.
  • We will form as many teams as we can and are only limited by gym space and coaches
  • Practices are about 2 hours long each week
  • We will have 1-2 playdays in advance of the tournament season (at home or nearby)
  • You will play in 2 tournaments in March and 2 in April that will be against teams region-wide (New England), those sites are usually within 90 minutes (one way) of Hartford). Tournaments will not require an overnight stay, tournament entry time is usually 8:30am.
  • Teams are roughly chosen by ability and position, playing time is roughly equal
  • Players are expected to attend all practices and tournaments

High Performance, $1,500 for 18-1, 17-1. $1,000 for 16-1 (best preparation for players that are committed and striving to playing in college)

  • Family discounts are available, please check the registration page for details.
  • Players should be standouts on their high school teams or show high potential (through athleticism, height or vertical jump). Juniors and Seniors should be working towards trying to play in college.
  • There will be 1-2 weekday practices most weeks in addition to Sunday practices
  • Tryouts begin on 11/15/09 and 17's and 18's teams will be finalized before Thanksgiving.
  • Teams are selected only by ability (carpools are not taken into account)
  • We will only form teams at levels that we expect to be competitive.
  • There will be several tournaments that require an overnight stay (Power League tournaments and qualifiers, Blocksport in March, Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore on Easter weekend for 18's and 17's).
  • We will be playing on Sat/Sun/Mon on MLK weekend (January 16-18th, 2010) at a new tournament at the CT Convention Center. Once started the tournament will be played regardless of weather so staying nearby is highly recommended.
  • Teams will attempt to qualify for the New England Open Division (formerly called the Power League) in their age group
  • Playing time at tournaments is more based upon ability, attitude, performance, attendance/dedication. Every player should receive sufficient playing time at tournaments if they attend practices and compete hard at them.
  • The higher cost is primarily due to substantially more practice time, tournament entry fees, coaches travel expenses.

Questions we are often asked about High Performance:

Can I play on a travel team and play other high school sports at the same time?
Yes, as long as your high school team doesn't have practices that conflict with our Sunday practices. The multi-day tournaments usually start after the winter season ends, but softball players do run into some conflicts.

If you are unable to make Sunday practices and 1 weeknight practice, you should play regional instead. Your HP teammates will be highly motivated volleyball players that want to play in college and will expect your club volleyball team to be a very high priority for you.

How about AAU basketball?
Our experience has been that you cannot play AAU basketball and be on our travel volleyball teams at the same time due to tournament conflicts. You should play regional level volleyball instead. There have been some instances where the schedules can work out, however missing HP tournaments at the end of our season to play in early season AAU basketball tournaments will not go over well with your teammates!

What's the attendance policy?
You are expected to attend every tournament and practice. If you are unable to attend any event, we need to know at the beginning of the season so that we may take that into account when selecting the teams. We do understand that there can be some conflicts, but we expect that your volleyball team will be your 2nd priority behind school work.

What happens if I have to drop out?
When you agree to join the HP team you are agreeing to pay the entire fee for the season at the payment plan is a convenience. If you have to drop out for medical reasons we will pro-rate your fee. It's important to understand that if you drop out because of any non-medical reason the entire fee is still due. Non of the costs of running the team will go down because we have 1 less player and it's nearly impossible to find a replacement player.

What's the Husky Volleyball Program Philosophy?

  • The outcome of the game is not the most important objective. The most important objective is that the players try to win and try their best. If they do their best, they will be successful, regardless of the outcome of the match.
  • Self-determination and teamwork! The players must learn from the beginning not to be misled by the "self" in self-determination. The team is the most important self-determining entity. The learned attitude of self-determination and it's application in everyday life is one of the most valuable skills that can be taught in our program.
  • The players are the center of the team, not the coach. The players are taught that they make the choice to excel, but that that choice can't be made on game day. The choice to excel is made in and out of practice every day.
